Subject

Depicts a moment from the final days of the life of Jesus Christ. Jesus is shown praying in the Garden of Gethsemane prior to his capture and crucifixion. In the Passion narrative, which is the name given to the story of Jesus' sacrifice, Jesus laments in the garden over the pain and suffering he knows he will soon undergo.

Description

Formerly a portion of the base/predella of the Colonna Altarpiece. This is an Oil on Wood painting characterized by soft brush strokes.
